Officiating

Welcome

Welcome to officiating in Cambridgeshire!  All aspects of Officiating in our County are run by the Officiating Working Group (OWG) and led by the County Officiating Lead Liv Petherick

We look after the development and support of Officials in Cambridgeshire.

The OWG is lead by the elected County Officiating Officer who sits on the Cambridgeshire County Netball Association Committee and consists of a representative invited from each of the recognised leagues in Cambridgeshire which are currently:

  • Cambridgeshire County Premier League;
  • Cambridge and District Netball League;
  • Hunts & Peterborough Netball League;
  • Wisbech Netball League; and
  • Junior Development League;

plus the County Lead Mentor, Course Coordinator and Officiating Administrator.

We follow our Officiating Working Group Protocol, a copy of which can be provided upon request.

What we do

We organise courses, mentoring, assessment and testing of beginner and C Award umpires, the mentoring of B Award umpires and everything else Officiating. We coordinate the supply of officials to County events and put forward talent-identified umpires for events in the East Region and for the Officiating B Award.

Pathway

For information on the pathway post C Award please see the England Netball Pathway linked at the top right of this page.

If you have questions you can contact your league secretary or the CCNA Officiating Officer.

Courses

If you are interested in attending a course please first contact your league umpiring secretary to see if there are any planned. If there is nothing planned at this time you can register your interest by completing the relevant application form and sending to your league secretary (note that payment is only required once a course date, venue and your attendance is confirmed). We will generally try to organise at least one beginner and one C Award course per season and in addition if/when we have enough interest we endeavour to arrange additional courses.

Links to the B and Award, Match Bench Officials, and Tutor courses can be found on the Netball East website..

Umpiring and Mentoring Opportunities

An adult friendly netball league operates in Cambridgeshire over the winter season.  It is for social groups of netball teams who wish to play like minded people on a Thursday evening.  There are 2 divisions and matches are 4 x 10 minute quarters, the first games start at 7pm and the second games start at 8pm, all played at the Milton Community Centre outdoor netball courts.

This is a perfect opportunity for anyone keen to start and practice their umpiring as they do not have to hold any qualification, just be very keen and have a good understanding of the rules.   Ideally attending an umpiring course will support your progress as an umpire and it provides a great environment for mentors to observe and feedback to those working towards taking a Beginner or C award.

For information on mentoring, please email CCNA Officiating Officer Liv Petherick.
