Cambridgeshire County Netball Awards 2020

Each year we celebrate the achievements of Cambridgeshire Netball and those within it. 2020 was not the year we'd hoped for with netball but it's always heartwarming and inspirational to read your nominations for who has made a difference in our county.

Congratulations to all our winners. Hopefully we'll able to get back on court soon!

2020 winners

Felice Papworth  - this award was created in memory of Felice Papworth and all that she did to promote and encourage netball in this county and within the sport in general. It is designed to recognise any player, coach, umpire or team that has done something which has had a positive impact on the game at a personal, team or club level. It is our opportunity to celebrate all that is good about netball in our county and is nominated by you.

2020 winners: Barbara Males and Tracey Stimson

Barbara was nominated by her club, CoJags. Barbara has been a much loved and integral part of Cottenham Jaguars and previously Cottenham for over 30 years. She has held many roles apart from being an avid player; C award umpire-regularly umpiring CDNL & Prem matches, umpiring secretary on Cambs Netball Committee, CoJags 1 assistant coach in regional league, set up and management of our website (no mean feat), team captain, kit officer the list goes on.Although Barbara does not hold a formal coaches qualification she has always been willing to help out and support our qualified coaches at all levels, by sharing her many years of netball knowledge and experience. Indeed she gave up 5 days of well-earned annual leave to help supervise some of our younger club members at a Euro Disney tournament a few years ago.Barbara is now about to realise a long held dream of living on the Norfolk Coast and will shortly be leaving us and moving house. She will be sadly missed by all at Cottenham Jaguars and we believe this award would be a fitting send off for her and all that she has given to netball over the years.

Tracey was nominated by her club, Royston for her continued involvement with the county, which to date has lasted for over 30 years. As well as being a club coach Tracey is a County Coach and of late has attended many Maverick courses to enhance her learning which she then feeds back into the county. Tracey will always take the time to listen to any queries/questions and go out of her way to help any player achieve their goals for example monitoring S&C development programmes that have been implemented. Tracey’s dedication to netball never waivers and she always happy to help out whether its coaching, scouting and managing the teams within the County for the club.
