Coaches’ Update

Unfortunately we have to say thank you and a goodbye (for now) to a much-valued and admired coach, Emma Jones, who this season has been Assistant County Coach and Head Coach at South Satellite. Emma has reluctantly had to step down from this role due to other commitments. Emma still wishes to be involved in the Performance Pathway and will offer her experience and expertise whenever possible. Emma has been a very inspirational coach to both the athletes and the other coaches. We have 4 new coaches joining the coaching team in September 2017. New Assistant Coach Tracy Stimson will assist the County coaching sessions and 3 new volunteer coaches Julia Kay, Sally Smith and Kelly Bridge will assist our current coaches and also gain some valuable mentoring.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the Academy coaches who have worked tirelessly and with tremendous commitment to our young players in the County this season.

I am pleased to also announce that South Satellite Coach, Shelly Ritchie received the Spirit of Netball Award 2017 from the County at the AGM this year. This is in recognition of all the hard work and commitment that Shelly gives to this county with umpiring, coaching and playing.

Regional Tournaments & Match Plays

Satellite Tournament – Saturday 6 May

It was Cambridgeshire’s turn to host the annual tournament this year with 16 teams competing from Essex, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Suffolk and North Buckinghamshire. Teams competed for the Cup Competition and Plate Competition.

The standard of youth netball was at times exceptional for this age group and there were some tightly contested games. Teams were very well supported by their coaches and spectators alike and it was noticeable that there were some very positive displays of sportsmanship throughout the tournament.

My thanks go to all the coaches and athletes who participated.

Congratulations go to the following Cambs athletes who were awarded Coaches’ Player of the Tournament.

Cambs Comets (South): GRACE NICHOLLS
Cambs Stars (South): ELLA MIELS

And finally many congratulations go to:

North Cambs Runners Up of the Plate Competition.

County Tournament Saturday 20 May

Two teams from Cambridgshire travelled to Basildon last month to participate in the County Regional Tournament.

Both teams played with no substitutes so the schedule was grueling for them, to say the least! We welcomed three Satellite athletes into the Cambs B squad, Phoebe Everitt, Maddy Frear and Ella Miels. Thank you so much to you for taking the time to come!

Sarah Lawson says:

"With only 14 players (3 of whom were Satellite), and the hottest day of the year so far, Cambridgeshire County players took part in their annual East Region tournament.

Team Captains Isobel Pigg and Catherine Hardiman led their teams by example, the first team won all their games but two, came third, missing out by one goal and beating both the teams who played in first and second place. Despite their exhaustion, they dug deep and won their final game after coming back from 3 goals at half time, finishing the day with an amazing win. The first team defence hosted by mainly Emma Linnette and Annis Williams won best defence of the tournament. The second team won team of the tournament and Catherine won players’ and coach’s player of the tournament.

Three matchplays were held this season in October and March. The County invited Norfolk and Suffolk academies to a day of match play in March and the Satellites held matchplays in October and March which were games played between North and South satellites.
