Regional Performance County League 2017/18

Matches on Monday 13 November 2017

Match Reports for Cambs A v Beds A

"With our first County game underway, Cambs were warmed up and raring to go.

Whilst playing against a tough defence and trying to adjust to new players Cambs managed to score a goal off our first centre pass. Pressure and defence throughout the court was strong and we managed to make interceptions gaining Cambs a lead of two goals in the first quarter.

Throughout the game we saw sublime play made throughout court with centre court players brilliantly linking defence and attack. Although we lost a few balls due to the defensive pressure of Beds Cambs still managed to hold their own keeping ahead throughout the game.

In the third quarter everyone started to gel together as a team, with great support play lead to us creating ourselves a 9 goal lead.

Fourth quarter substitutions were made, but Cambs still held their own keeping ball side and fighting for any loose balls resulting in a great win 35 - 28.

Well done to everyone a great team performance."

- Emily Bates, Captain

"The first game of the season began with a very evenly matched 1 st quarter goal for goal. Some panic passing by Cambs enabled Beds to take an opportunity and they eventually drew level half way through this first quarter. However Cambs turned the ball over several times going into the last minute - great defensive play by the whole squad resulted in us leading 9 -7 at the end of this quarter.

With a team change and bringing fresh legs on at quarter time it took a little while for us to settle again, but the we still managed to keep the score with a lead of two 17 – 15 going into half time. Half time team chat gave us a chance to discuss areas of improvement and what we needed to do to breakthrough Beds tough Defensive play.

Going into the 3 rd quarter the ball was played freely and effortlessly down to our awaiting shooters who netted the ball comfortably. An overall superb quarter with great court linkage, timing, attacking and defensive work. Bringing the score at the end of this quarter 29 – 20 to Cambs.

Going into the final quarter again changes were made putting on fresh legs and new combinations. Cambs began to look slightly tired and a tough Beds defence began to make us force lots of errors.

Managing eventually to keep possession and calm down our passing we managed to hold the lead and the final score ending 35 – 28 to Cambs.

The new team worked tirelessly together throughout and a great start to the season. I am really looking forward to seeing how the girls develop this year and I was so very proud of their first game.

A big thank you to Juliet and Kirsten for umpiring, Emma and Etily’s mums for scoring and our supporters."

Match Reports for Cambs B v Beds B

Cambs B"Cambridgeshire County B team travelled to Bedford for their first competitive match against Bedfordshire this week, and for some of the girls this was their debut playing for the county and competing at this level.  We had 11 players in the squad and used it as an opportunity to use different player combinations and to try to optimize individual’s court time. The girls played at high intensity over the 60 minutes but couldn’t quite get the win this time. They had a challenging first quarter which ended 13-4 to Bedford but managed to pull the score back to within 5 goals with the final score 47-42."
