Tournament Report – U13 Tournament Saturday 5 October 2019 – Norfolk

Anya Hjaltun-Rayner – Cambridge 3 (south)
Cambridge South 3 had a victorious Saturday succeeding playing all together for the first time in a tournament in Norwich. Our first few games helped us adapt to each other’s play but after that we worked very well as a team. Our shooters had an amazing tournament, playing off each other very well. The attack down the court was skillful and precise and our defense was very solid. Overall we had a fantastic tournament, winning 10 games and loosing won resulting in us becoming runners up. Everyone enjoyed very much themselves and what a great start to the season!

Lizzie Drury – Cambridge (South)
My Cambridge South team played fantastically to finish 3rd out of 12 teams in the recent county tournament. We were held to a nervy 5-5 draw against the top team from Norfolk, and we lost an incredibly tight game against the other Cambs South team 6-5. The rest of the games were relatively comfortable wins until we faced the incredibly strong Herts 1 team against whom we played our best netball of the tournament to draw 7-7. Herts 1 then went onto beat our other Cambs South side and were eventual winners. The tournament was our first competitive action together and we had a fantastic time, growing in confidence as the games went on.

Beth Cave (North A)
On Saturday 5th October Under 13s A team took part in an academy tournament. We played 11 matches, starting strong with a 4-1 win against Bedfordshire 2’s followed by a 3-0 win against Bedfordshire 1’s and a 6-1 win against Norfolk blues with some great marking and interceptions in the D by Flo Patterson and good teamwork from all the girls. Unfortunately, we lost the next few games competing against some strong competition from the Cambridgeshire South academy and Hertfordshire 2’s. We narrowly missed out on a win against Hertfordshire 1’s, where the score was 4-4 for the majority of the game. However, the girls kept their heads up going on to win our final 3 matches with some good shooting and movement in the D by Lily Page. Beating Norfolk Blacks 11-1, with some great movement and passing throughout the court. We beat the B team 7-1 and went on to have a closely fought match against Norfolk Reds winning 4-3 to finish on a high. Overall we were placed 6th out of 12 teams. Well done to all the girls!

Oliva Pinchbeck - North
Saturday was a good day for all the Cambridge teams, including us. For our first tournament the result was respectable: 7th out of 12 teams. It took a few matches for the team to pick up on the way everyone plays and for the play to really click, but when it did we played some excellent netball. The atmosphere was brilliant, with all members of the team encouraging each other and keeping their spirits up when we lost a match. Everyone was willing to play any position and congratulated their teammates on goals or good passes. All players stood out and complemented each other, whilst showcasing their own skillsets and playing unbelievably well! Mia’s athleticism shone through when she was playing centre getting an incredible amount of interceptions. Both Keira’s played exceptionally well in defence having only 1 game off each! Jess was excellent playing on the centre court and fed some amazing balls into the circle. Helena made some brilliant dodges in the circle and some great shots too! Erin’s shooting was incredible and her rebounds were equally as good. Georgia helped the ball down the court with skill and some amazing passes. Charlotte played well, shooting and centre court, helping us get the ball down court. However none of this could have been done without our excellent coach, Sally! She supported us throughout the tournament and helped us play our best. We owe it all to her! Everyone played exceptionally well and gave 100% effort in all of our matches and we really bonded as a team. We played some amazing netball!

Sally Smith (coach) Cambs 2 (North B)
A great first trip out for Cambs 2, (north B squad) the tournament was early in the season which meant the girls hadn’t had a huge amount of time to bond or play together but you couldn’t tell! They got stuck in setting up camp and chatting, warming up together and getting a ball going between them was wonderful to see a team ethos starting to form. Our on court play had moments of brilliance with some beautiful fluid play but also gave us some pointers to work on in the next training session, which was to be expected. Olivia did a fantastic job of captain – offering a strong performance in centre court throughout the day and support from the side lines, she also ensured the shaking of hands and carrying out the 3 cheers. My defensive dynamo “Keira” (yes both GK and GD were Keira’s) you two girls were outstanding, with only one game off each out of 11 you were strong, consistent and gave us many interceptions and turnovers. Georgia provided a great back up in the circle and fantastic arms and tips out in centre court at WD. Mia, Helena, Charlotte and Erin my four sharp shooters, you girls did incredibly well both in your preferred position as GS / GA some lovely connections starting to build between the various pairings, a big thank you for taking to a centre court to help even the load for everyone. Then to Jess our midcourt legs, you worked so hard connecting the defence and attacking end in each and every game, some fabulous balls into the circle and great through court support. A big well done to all the girls for their outstanding attitude on and off court throughout the day, their responsiveness to instructions and for always playing with a smile! 3 wins out of our 11 games saw us finish 9th on the table, lots of things to go away and work on increase that table positioning next time out! One final thank you to all the parents for the support and offers of coffee etc on the day it was very much appreciated.
